extra info Onder de titel Pure Irish Drops komen jaarlijks 3 Ierse muzikanten op toernee naar Duitsland, België en..Groningen. Ze worden aan de hand van een thema bij elkaar gezocht en dat is dit jaar " music from the South of Ulster ". Ulster, ook bekend als de zes noordelijk graafschappen, is een regio die rijk is aan vaak bijzondere dansmuziek waarin met name Schotse stijlinvloeden te horen zijn. Ook vind je er een schat aan liederen. In een kleinschalig concert geven de drie musici solo én gezamenlijk, een indruk van de muzikale tradities van hun geboortestreek. Gabriel McArdle is een getalenteerde traditionele ballad zanger met een repertoire dat vooral afkomstig is uit de traditie van zijn geboortestreek, het graafschap Fermanagh. Behalve als zanger, hoor je Gabriel ook als concertinaspeler. Gerry O'Connor, afkomstig uit county Louth, is één van Ierland's beste en veelzijdigste fiddlers. Hij schakelt moeiteloos van een Noordierse 'highland' naar een Sligo jig en met groepen als Skylark en Lá Lugh maakte hij wereldfaam. De familie van trekharmonicaspeler Martin Quinn, is diep geworteld in de muziektradities van het graafschap Armagh. english In 2007, PURE IRISH DROPS focuses on music from the southern counties of Ulster, presenting three of the finest exponents of South Ulster music. The idea for this year's aspect came from Gerry O'Connor, appearing for the third time in a PURE IRISH DROPS line-up. Collectively this trio brings a celebration of our rich musical heritage. The ancient province of Ulster has always extended far beyond the boundaries of today's political territory of Northern Ireland, and it's counties span both sides of the current border. The music of the region, however, has never paid heed to demarcation lines, and clearly reflects its cross-border origins.
