Hun tweede CD "IL est encore Temps"is net verschenen en daarover meldt het magzine Froots "..they play their dance music in a most exhilarating and driving manner". "They're shockingly good, with imaginations and technique that won't quit. If there's justice, they'll be huge." Konogan an Habask - biniou, uileann pipes, Kaou Gwenn - drums, Youn Roue - bombarde, Tangi ar Gall-Carre - trekharmonica Tangi Oillo - gitaar web http://www.startijenn.com/ http://www.myspace.com/startijenn

english La Machine (France) The powerful and captivating sound of La Machine produces a warm and personal music which assumes entirely its traditional aspect. This fusion is modern and federating. The couple hurdy-gurdy and bagpipe insure the authenticity of the style, and the inventive balance created between these two instruments allows to explore other musical universes. Double bass and percussions offer a swaying rhythmic laying where you'll feel groovy afro-cuban tones. And when Julien pitches his raw and tensed voice, appropriating traditional songs of Centre France, the result is a fusion that classify La Machine at the centre of the actual music. Web http://www.lamachine.info/ Afenginn (Denmark) With high tempo, great joy and border seeking musical ideas Afenginn has built up a reputation of virtuosity and of excellent live shows the past years - Afenginn means intoxication and strength! Since the beginning in 2002 their brand has been originality in a style that grows out of world, punk and Nordic folk music and travels from the smallest pianissimo to wild and roaring parts. Afenginns homebrewed and unique style has been categorized as bastard-ethno, with a sigh of Nordic melancholy and a twist of cheerful madness. Performing with artists such as Frank London from the Klezmatics and doing performances with a symphony orchestra, Afenginn is still ambitious to seek new serious adventures. The latest proof is given on the monstrous concept album Reptilica Polaris. The concept of Reptilica Polaris, Afenginn's third release, covers all eating syntax error lyrics and a reptilious instrumentation of 12-piece brass ensemble and a large male choir. The vocal based album is composed as one long piece of music, which: "... can leave you shaking your head in admiration as well as laughing." fRoots08 (UK). The two albums Akrobakkus (2006) and Retrograd (2004) have both received very good reviews in the press and have also received several awards and nominations. Retrograd was chosen "Best World Album" in 2005 at the Danish World Music Awards. Akrobakkus reached the World Music charts Europe in February 2007. "They've developed into a world class eccentric group, even though there's little of Denmark in their sound. Take them for what they are, which is wonderful, and enjoy. Pure madness." Sing Out! (USA) "They're shockingly good, with imaginations and technique that won't quit. If there's justice, they'll be huge." (fRoots). The orchestra plays exclusively original compositions and have performed in clubs, festivals and radio and television shows in USA (e.g. SXSW), Germany, Malaysia, Switzerland, Belgium, Estonia, Sweden, Norway, Finland, the Faeroe Islands and Denmark with more than 300 concerts in the past years. Rasmus Krøyer - clarinets Niels Skovmand - violin Kim Nyberg - mandolin, mandocello Aske Jacoby - bass Rune Kofoed - drums & percussion Web: http://www.afenginn.dk/index.php Valkyrien Allstars (Norway) Valkyrien Allstars is a folk-music group consisting of five Norwegian youths in their early twenties. Tuva Livsdatter Syvertsen, Ola Hilmen and Erik Sollid are from the eastern part of Norway and are all playing the national instrument the Hardanger Fiddle. The only girl in the group is also featuring as their leading vocal. Valkyrien Allstars has existed since 2002, but they have been practicing as musicians since they were youngsters. Their music is based on traditional Norwegian tunes, but they have given the sound a new dimension and created pieces of music that gives them a more modern and international sound. They enjoy experimenting with music from other categories and cultures. In this way they succeed in bringing folk-music further ahead and can be reckoned as avant-garde in their field. The vocal gives it all a further dimension and their way of singing is also much based on original song-tradition in Norway. Magnus Larsen and Martin Langlie are added as bass player and percussionist. web http://www.myspace.com/valkyrienallstars Filippo Gambetta Trio (Italy) The compositions, largely signed by Filippo Gambetta, as well as by M. Balatti and C. de Angeli, range with freedom in a musical field untied from the objective of playing traditional music, nevertheless sounding at the ear both of the fan of acoustic music and to the one of the casual listener, as very close for intentions and stylistical choices to the folk music playing. Sharing the passion for irish and european folk, minimal, jazz and rock music, the musicians involved in the duo, trio and quartet projects, elaborate music rhythmically iridescent and many-sized. The experience acquired in many years of playing in different kinds of acoustic and electro acoustic music projects, creates and kneads a solid sound on stage, where irish music phrasings and irregular melodies suggested by the possibilities of the G/C three rows button accordion are melted with jazzy and rocky grooves. Traditional european rearranged tunes and compositions of manifold authors complete the repertoire. Web http://www.filippogambetta.com Julie Fowlis (Scotland) Julie Fowlis is a very talented singer and instrumentalist from Scotland. She is the BBC Radio 2 Folk Singer of the Year 2008 and in a few short years has taken the music scene by storm, gathering a small army of fans around the world including an impressive list of celebrities including Mark Radcliffe, KT Tunstall plus Ricky Gervais and Phil Selway from Radiohead. In 2007 she was invited to appear on "Later...with Jools Holland" and was a special guest on the critically acclaimed "Transatlantic Sessions" series and has entertained millions of radio listeners around the world with her engaging live sessions and live performances. However she is somewhat of an enigma as she sings in a language only understood by around 60,000 people - which accounts for only approximately 1% of the population of Scotland. She sings in Scottish Gaelic and spends her time touring around the world bringing ancient songs form the Hebridean Islands to new audiences. She is an accomplished musician as well - playing Highland bagpipes, smallpipes, whistles, oboe & cor anglais and three waltzes on the one row melodeon. Recently Julie has delved a little into broadcasting, and has had the opportunity to present two flagship music programmes on BBC Scotland - the traditional music programme "Travelling Folk" and the world music show "Global Gathering". A one hour documentary on Julie and her musical travels, entitled "Bliadhna Julie/Julie's Year" was also broadcast by the BBC in 2007. She was publicly voted Gaelic Singer of the Year 2007 at the Scots Trad Music Awards and her album "Cuilidh", produced with husband Eamon Doorley, was voted "Album of the Year" at the same awards. She has a clutch of other awards, including BBC Radio 2 Horizon Award 2006 for Best Emerging Artist (the first ever Gaelic Artist to be nominated for such an award) and was also voted Gaelic Singer of the Year 2005 at the Scots Trad Music Awards. She remains the only singer to have won this prestigious award twice. She is very chuffed about this and her Mam and Dad have the awards up in the living room.
